Samsung Galaxy M21 Review and Specifications, Samsung should be called one of the most productive smartphone manufacturers today. After releasing Galaxy M31 in March and A31 earlier this month, they re-released a new series this week. This time, the newcomer is the “younger brother” of M31 as an affordable fellow M series, namely the Samsung Galaxy M21.
The more variety of Samsung phone series in the entry-mid class also raises questions about the Galaxy M21. Actually, what are the advantages that make us have to buy this smartphone in the midst of increasingly fierce competition between brands? Are the advantages offered by this cellphone able to meet the needs of the present and provide the best experience for users such as playing games and streaming?
Samsung Galaxy M21 Review and Specifications
To answer a series of questions above, KINCIR will review the Samsung Galaxy M21 straightly based on experience using this device with a little comparison with competitors and the same series of Samsung’s. Let’s see, who knows this review can help you to buy this phone or not!
Solid Familiar Design
One thing that might stick out in your mind when you see the Samsung Galaxy M21 is a matter of design that looks very familiar. We assume that this allegation is reasonable, especially if you really pay attention to the development of Samsung smartphones over the past year.
Yep, in appearance, the Galaxy M21 is like a nut split in half with the Galaxy M31. In fact, this cell phone looks no different from the Galaxy M30s. Both the M21 and M30s adopt the Infinity-U water drop screen design with three cameras on the back. While the difference with the Galaxy M31 as a “big brother” is only in the rear camera which amounts to four.
Although impressed lazy because there are no significant changes, the design on the Galaxy M21 is not exactly bad. Moreover, the water drop design is also still adopted by several other smartphone brands for some products in the entry-mid class.
When compared with the Galaxy A51, A71, or A80 that we have reviewed before, the Galaxy M21 does seem more “fat”. Even so, this phone feels light and still feels comfortable. Moreover, the “fat” M21 is quite reasonable because the batteries used are more powerful than its siblings from the A and S series.
In addition, the plastic material used does indeed create a non-premium impression. However, overall the Galaxy M21 is able to appear in accordance with the place and its portion as a lower middle class entry with a solid design.
Battery Strength No Tara
Battery life must be recognized as the main attraction of the Samsung Galaxy M21. Just like the Galaxy M31 and M30s, this cellphone carries a 6,000mAh battery which is currently the largest power in its class.
Collaborated with the well-known Exynos 9611 chipset, the Galaxy M21 is also capable of providing unmatched battery life. Lowbat also should no longer be included in your dictionary as a smartphone user today that emphasizes productivity.
According to our experience using the Galaxy M21 with normal activities, the battery can last up to two days without charging. Meanwhile, if used to play games or tethering, the power is reduced by half.
For battery charging, Samsung provides a 15W fast charging feature that can make full power from 15% to 100% in 2.5 hours. It’s not fast enough compared to 25W fast charging. However, with jumbo capacity, overall this phone provides the best anti-lowbat experience compared to other smartphones in its class.
The Best Movie Experience with AMOLED Screen + Dolby Atmos Audio
Not just playing games, watching movies is arguably the main need for today’s smartphone users. Especially with the proliferation of streaming applications such as Netflix that makes smartphone manufacturers inevitably have to clean up to provide the best visual experience.
The good news, the Samsung Galaxy M21 is ready to carry out this task as well as possible thanks to the 6.4 inch Full HD AMOLED screen. You can also watch HD quality movies or serials with brighter screens with more detailed colors.
When compared with the Galaxy A or S series, the AMOLED screen on the Galaxy M21 does feel more inferior. Even so, this is fairly normal because not all AMOLED screens display the same quality.
In the entry-mid market, the AMOLED screen carried by the Galaxy M21 will certainly be an advantage that you will not find in competitors. Because, most other brands of smartphones are still using IPS LCD screens whose quality is one level below AMOLED. With the same price or not much different, you certainly have to consider these advantages, especially if watching or streaming is the primary need and the main consideration when buying a smartphone.
Meanwhile, in terms of audio, Galaxy M21 also looks special. Samsung embed Dolby Atmos audio features that make the sound quality much clearer than standard audio systems. Just like the AMOLED screen, this audio feature is somewhat special for an entry-mid class smartphone.
Performance that Supports Daily Activities
As mentioned above, the Samsung Galaxy M21 carries the Exynos 9611 chipset. Indeed, the overall Exynos 9611 is able to present efficient performance. However, we must admit, the performance offered by this processor has not been able to fit into any special criteria.
You need to know, Exynos 9611 is not a chipset that was created for the needs of hardcore gamers, but to meet daily needs. Hence, playing heavyweight games like PUBG Mobile feels less elevated, even when the performance settings are at the default settings. If you have to compare, the Exynos 9611’s performance on the Galaxy M21 is at a level between Snapdragon 636 and 660.
Even so, we can’t say the experience of playing on this cellphone is bad. Because, the performance still feels stable and responsive even though it is not as smooth as the A series. Moreover, Samsung has also embedded an innate AI Gaming Booster application that is good enough to make the performance feel efficient.
Just info, the unit that we tested using the 4GB LPDDR4x RAM option and 64GB storage. Meanwhile, there are still 6GB RAM + 128GB variants which have not yet entered the Indonesian market. If later there is a 6GB variant, we recommend choosing it because on paper the variant is certainly faster than the 4GB variant.
Best-in-class Camera and Video
The Samsung Galaxy M21 carries a setting of three cameras on the back and one selfie camera on the front. For the main camera, Samsung carries a lens with a 48 megapixel sensor that is collaborated with an 8 megapixel wide-angle lens and a 5 megapixel depth lens for bokeh effect. Meanwhile, the selfie camera uses a sensor with a resolution of 20 megapixels.
With great lighting, the Galaxy M21 is able to capture images in detail. The result is not much different from the quality of the Galaxy A51 whose camera settings are similar to this phone. Portrait and wide mode also looks special without any significant issues.
However, the quality feels reduced if the light around the camera dims. Although using the Night Mode feature, the camera seems difficult to find the focus so the image looks broken. The same thing applies to selfies. With lighting that supports, the picture quality feels detailed, but decreases when in a low-light situation.
Interestingly, the Galaxy M21 turns out to support 4K quality video recording and Super Steady features such as the A series.
With prices starting at Rp3,199 million, the Galaxy M21 will give you various advantages that are hard to find in competitors’ devices. Call it the beauty of the AMOLED screen, the power of a 6,000mAh battery, a camera that continues to be refined, and of course the big name Samsung is a pity to miss.
Seeing Samsung’s efforts to improve and produce quality products, it’s not surprising that this South Korean manufacturer can continue to dominate the market. They also now dare to play prices that can compete with competitors so that we as buyers are tempted to have its products, like the Samsung Galaxy M21 for example.
